Days 63-65 Yosemite

Lisa and I went to Yosemite. Everyone I met recommended me to go there, and the only person I could think of going hiking with was her. We both haven’t been there since we were a kid, so it was almost like our first time. As we decided to go at the last minute, all the campgrounds were full, but thanks to Lisa, she booked a site that was canceled on the day before, so we didn’t have to leave crazily early.

7/19 Tue

Glacier Point

We left San Fransisco at 9AM and stopped to fuel our car, and also fuel ourselves with breakfast. We bought rotisserie chicken, organic kale, beer, and banana chips. Everything reminds us about the trip one month ago. What is nice about the car is that we don’t have to worry about the weight to carry.

After we entered the Yosemite National Park, came a steep windy road with no shoulders. Even when we were driving, we were always had a biking mind, as we kept on saying, “I can’t imagine climbing up this hill!!” or, “When we were on a bike, all the road construction guys or any other tourists talked to us, and made us feel special.”

We arrived to the Hodgdon Meadow campground at 2PM. We put up our tent, and opened up the map to plan. We decided to go to the Glacier road, and hike to the Sentinel Dome. I didn’t know that Yosemite was so big, as big as RI, so it takes hours to drive through. We started hiking at 5PM, and reached to the top in 30 minutes. The sky was perfectly blue with no clouds, and the summit had a 360 degree panoramic view of Yosemite fall and Half Dome. The map said it would take 2 hours, but only took us 1 hour round trip.

We also went to the Glacier Point. So beautiful!!

We came back to the campground at 8PM, had beer and chicken and boiled some eggs and potatoes.

7/20 Wed

Upper Yosemite fall

It took a hour to the hiking point of Upper Yosemite fall, and we started at 9AM. 3.2mile to the top of the fall, and another 1mile to Yosemite point. The first half was shady and nice, but the last half was steep and rocky, so we had to catch our breath.

We arrived to the top at 11:30, and had lunch there.

A squirrel was sneaking a chance to take our lunch.

鹿も and deer

Yosemite point was beautiful!! It’s worth climbing.

The top of the waterfall is a river, and many people were bathing. We dipped in our feet and filled our water bottles. (I’m glad I had a filter)

I usually go down twice as fast as I go up, but it took me also 2 and a half hours to get down. We came back at 4:30PM, and went to the visitor center to decide our schedule for tomorrow. We had ice cream and went to the Sentinel beach. The reflections of the mountains were beautiful.

I cooked ramen for dinner, and we had beer (of course) and played cards.

7/21 Thu

Tuolomne Meadows

One and a half hour drive to Tuolomne Meadows. Tenaya Lake on the way was beautiful. We parked our car, and hiked Limbert Dome.

The rocks were steep, but easy to climb because they are grippy. And the view was spectacular. You can see all the meadows and the surrounding mountains. It’s totally a different world from Yosemite Valley, and I like both. The map said 4-5 hours, but it only took a hour.

As we still had some time, went to Soda Spring. Natural spring water bubbling from the ground. The water is brown because it contains much iron, and it also tasted like iron.

We saw a marmot.

We had lunch at Tenaya Lake, and left before noon.

Lisa!!

It was a trip with no plans, but I’m so happy to see all the different aspects of Yosemite. Thank you so much Lisa!!
