Day 72-73 Big Sur

わたしが着く数日前からBig Surで山火事が発生していた。だが道路は大丈夫だということだったので、予定通り行くことにした。
しかしキャンプ場に着いてはじめて、すべての州立公園が閉鎖されていることを知る。
ガーーーン。
There was a big fire in Big Sur which started few days before I arrived.
I knew about that, but the roads were fine so I didn't change my schedule.
However, when I arrived to the campground, I realized all the state parks were closed...
Oh nooooo!!
そろそろ日も落ちてくる頃だし、早く泊まるところを見つけないとなあ。
まあ、でもそれよりまず燃料補給ですな。
Well, it's starting to get dark so I need to look for a place to stay tonight.
But before that, I need some fuel.
Nepentheは西海岸沿いで最もクールなカフェのひとつ。（そして高い）
Nepenthe is one of the coolest cafe on the coast. (Also expensive)
それからキャンプできそうな場所を探すのだが、夕日がきれいすぎてなかなか進めない。
I was keep on looking for a nice place to camp, but the sunset was just beautiful.
いよいよ暗くなってきたという時に、ようやくよさそうなスポットを発見！
明らかに誰かの敷地なので、いつでも撤収できるようにテントを張らず寝袋のみ。
It was almost getting dark when I found a nice spot. It was apparently someone's property so I just pulled out my sleeping bag so that I could leave quickly.
と思ったら持ち主がやってきた。やばい！と本能的に隠れる小心者のわたくし。しかし見つかる。。でもとてもいい人で事情を話したら快くオッケーしてくれました。今度は堂々とテントを張る。笑
Then the owners came back. I done how tried to hide, but they found me. I told them my circumstance, and they wet very nice to tell me I could camp.

Big Sur to San Simeon on 07/29/2016 | CYCLING Training Log Entry | MapMyRide
翌朝はそそくさと出発。
すごい霧で何も見えない。
I left early on the next morning.
The fog was so thick that I couldn't see anything.
この時期の朝はいつも濃い霧に包まれるようだ。しかし雨の降らないこの地域にとって、この霧が貴重な水資源となっており、セコイアの木は葉っぱから水分を取り込んでいるという。
It seems that it's always foggy in the morning here. But for the redwood trees, this is a important resource of water because it is so dry here. The leaves drink thousands of gallons of water from the fog.
コンドルが最近戻ってきたらしい。彼らの生態がとても面白い。肉食だが自ら狩りをすることはなく、死んだ動物を食べる分解者。２年に一度、一個しか卵を産まず、オスメスともに卵を温め、育てるそう。
The condors have returned recently. They have a very interesting habit. They eat meat, but don't hunt. Typically they lay only one egg every two years, and both parents incubate and take care of their single offspring.
昼前になるとようやく晴れてくる。
Big Surはアップダウンがはげしい。でも美しい。
The sun finally came out before noon. Big Sur is very hilly, but beautiful.
この辺りはユーカリの木が多く、常にユーカリの香りがする。
ユーカリの木でツリーハウスを作っている人たちに出会った。家を作る時には木材を乾燥させて使うのが一般的だが、この家の場合は木を曲げて作るため、できるだけ新鮮な状態がいいという。材の採集も含めて5週間でここまでできたそう。カッコいい。
There are so many Eucalyptus trees here, and you can smell on the way. I met some people building a tree house from these trees. Wood for houses usually has to be dry, but in this case, fresh green wood are preferred because they need to bend them. It took them 5 weeks including wood gathering to build this far. Awesome!!
Big surを過ぎてしばらくすると野生のトドがたくさんいた。ゴロゴロと転がり、時々背中をかいたりする様子はどこかのおっさんか干物女のようだった。
でも彼ら、海の中では一年で10,000マイル泳ぐ強者らしい。
There were many elephant seals after Big Sur. They looked so lazy laying down, sometimes itching their back.
But I hear they are very aggressive in the water, and swim 10,000miles a year.

そしてついにキャンプ場に到着。
And I finally arrived to the San Simeon beach.
シャワーを浴びようとしたら干ばつですべて閉まっていた。
でもそのおかげで美しい夕焼けが見られた。
I tried to take a shower, but it was all closed due to the drought.
But thanks to that, I was able to see a beautiful sunset.
キャンプ場にいた人たちと焚き火を囲んでビールを飲んだ。誰かと飲むビールは100倍おいしい。そして安心して寝られる平らな場所があるのはとても幸せなことだ。
I had beer around the campfire with some guys I met there. It always tastes way more better with accompany.And I am happy to sleep in a safe and flat place.
