Day 105-106 Juliaca

Juliacaに向かう途中にはフラミンゴがいた。

JuliacaではCasa de ciclista（サイクリストのための家）に泊めてもらった。 オーナーのジョバンニにとても親切にしてもらった。彼はありとあらゆる工具や溶接機まで持っていて、なんでも作ってしまうすごい人。ちょうどお仕事のお休みだったこともあり、我々のリクエストに応えていろんなものを作るのを手伝ってくれた。

We stayed at Casa de ciclista in Juliaca. The owner Geovanni was such a kind guy, and talented in making everything by himself. He has almost any kinds of tools, and helped us making stuff.

はじめになんでも売ってる町の金物屋さん？というか通り？へ。 わたしは先日ミラーを落としてしまったので小さなミラーを購入。

We first went to a place that sells all kinds of parts. I lost my mirror on the way, so I bought a little one.

それをジョバンニがこんなかんじに仕上げてくれた。ついでにカメラも付けたいとのわがままに応えてヘルメットがパワーアップ！

Geovanni made a mirror like this. He even made an attachment for my camera and it turned out like this!!

フロントフォーク用の簡易ラックまで作ってくれた！

And a easy rack for my front fork!!

ここの人たちは壊れたら直す、自分で作るという精神が染み付いている。だから一見こんなの誰が買うんだろうというようなパーツですら需要があるんだろう。 日本でも昔はそうだったんだろうなあ。壊れたら買い換えるとか、なんでもお金で買えるというのは果たして便利なのか、豊かなのかということを考えさせられますね。

It is great that they have the culture to fix or make something that they need. That's why they sell all kinds of parts that I was wondering who would buy. Japan (and other countries as well) also used to be like that. We have to think over once again whether to buy everything with money is really "convenient" or "affluent".
