Day 130-132 Laguna route #1
ボリビアからチリに抜けるアタカマ砂漠の道は色とりどりの湖や美しい景観から「宝石の道」（英語ではLaguna route）と呼ばれているが、チャリダー界では世界一の悪路として知られている。それでも皆が通りたがるにはそれなりの理由があるのだろう。私が出会ったチャリダーたちも「大変だけどその価値はある」と口々に言うので、わたしも覚悟を決めて行ってみることにした。
The road from Bolivia yo Chile through the Atacama desert is called "Laguna route" ("the road of treasure" in Japanese), but it's also known as the worse road among the cyclists. But everyone told me its definitely worth it, so I decided to go.

全長400km中250km以上が未舗装路
それも砂漠なのでほとんど砂と石。砂が深いところは自転車を押すしかない。乗れるところはまだいい方だが、それでも洗濯板やガタガタの道だったりする。わたしのようにマウンテンバイクでない場合は8割ぐらい押すことになる。

250km out of 400 is unpaved
And because it's a desert, it's all sand and stones, and at many parts the sand is so deep that you can't ride. Even the parts that you can ride are mostly washboards or rocky paths. If you're not on a mountain bike like me, you have to push almost all the way.

一週間分の食料と水が必要
道中店はほぼない（ホテルにレストランがあったり、飲み物などは売っていたりするが高い）ので食料と水を積んで走らないといけない。ちなみに水はホテルで汲ませてもらったり、ツアーのジープに頼むともらえたりする。

You need to carry all your food and water for a week
There are hardly any stores on the way, (there are some restaurants in the hotels and you can buy beverages or snacks there, but expensive) so you need to carry all your food and water. For water, it's possible to refill at the hotels or ask for the tour jeep.

標高が高い
これは南米に入ってからずっとなので今にはじまったことじゃないが、標高3600mのウユニから最高4900mまで上がる。ただでさえ苦しいのに重い荷物を積んだ自転車をこぐ（押す）のは相当息が上がる。

High altitude
This is the problem since I entered South America, so it's not especially for here, but you have to climb up from Uyuni 3600m to the highest point which is 4900m. It's even harder to ride (push) your heavy bike in the thin air.
さて、前置きはこれぐらいにして行きますか。。
1日目
ウユニから90km先のサンクリストバルという町へ向かう。一応舗装されているがところどころ工事中で迂回しないといけない。平らでまっすぐて何もない、悪く言えばつまらん道。わたしはウユニから10kmほど走ったところで通りがかったピックアップトラックに拾っていただき、サンクリまでワープしちゃいました。エセチャリダーですみません。
Day 1
I was heading from Uyuni to San Cristobal, when a pick up truck stopped by and offered me a ride. I knew that the road was boring, so I accepted his kind offer.
そんなわけで目的地に昼前に着いてしまったので腹ごしらえをして、メルカドで買い物をして（ここがメルカドのある最後の町）、翌日の目的地だったアロタに向かう。
Thanks to him, I arrived at my destination before noon, so I had some lunch and did shopping at the mercado (this is the last town that has a mercado). Then I headed to Alota, which was my destination for the next day.
アロタまでは60km。本当はもう少し先に進みたかったが、16時過ぎから風が強くなってきたので最後の宿に泊まる。ここが最後の村なのだが、閑散としていて人もほとんど見かけなかった。
60km to Alota. I wanted to get further, but the wind became strong after 4pm, so I decided to stay at this village. This is the last village, but there were hardly any people.
2日目
アロタからしばらくのぼりが続く。途中いろんな形の岩が出てきて面白い。ウリ坊みたいなのを発見。
Day2
Many interesting shaped rocks on the way. This one looks like a wild bore.
45km進んだところの分岐を入るそうなのだが、そこまでがなかなか遠い。午後になってようやく分岐点へ。ここからいよいよ宝石の道に突入。
After 45km, the Laguna road finally begins.
入って早々、深砂と洗濯板の手厚い歓迎を受ける。と思ったら次は急な坂と石がゴロゴロ突き出たガタガタの道。1時間で2kmしか進んでない。目的地まであと20km以上あるのに。。
As soon as I entered, I was welcomed with deep sand and washboards, and after that came a steep climb with many stones. It was so hard that it took me an hour to move only 2km. But I still have to go 20km more.
登っても登っても終わらなくて、絶望とさみしさで涙が出てきた。「帰りたい…」思わずもれた情けない言葉が悔しくて、人もいないのをいいことに大声で泣き叫んだ。
あーわたしなんも変わってないや。辛くなったら逃げるのか。また同じことの繰り返し。自分の自己中なところやずるいところ、短気、ネガティブ。。そんな自分を変えたかった。旅に出たら何か変わるかもしれないと思った。でも結局何も変わっていない。「他人からは逃げられても自分からは逃げられないよ。どこにいっても一緒だよ。」ある人に言われた言葉。今ならよくわかる。こんなに走っても、地球の裏側に来ても、わたし何も変わってない。変わるってそんなに簡単じゃない。そう思ったらまた涙が出てきた。
The endless climb made me so despair and lonely, that I finally started to cry like a baby. It was the first time in my trip that I felt I wanted to go home.
One of the reasons that I started this trip, was because I wanted to change myself. When something doesn't go well, I have always tried to run away or blame someone else. I also wanted to change my negative, selfish, angrish, aspects. But I became sad again because I realized that nothing has changed at all.
気づけば9時間以上走ってる。いや、半分以上止まってたけど。今日は疲れたしこの辺で休もう。ちょうどいい場所があった。焚き火をしてラーメンを作り、マシュマロとパンを焼きながら物思いにふける夜。
I was tired after biking for 9 hours, so I decided to rest. Fortunately, I found a nice place to camp. I cooked ramen and toasted marshmallows in the fire.
3日目
相変わらず砂が深いので大半は押す。10km進んだところでようやく最初の湖、Cañapa湖。フラミンゴを眺めながらおやつを食べる。
The sand is deep again, so I pushed a lot. After 10km came the first lake Laguna Cañapa. Many flamingos.
そのあと道に迷い、Hediona湖に着いたのは昼頃。しかしこれがラッキーなことにちょうどツアーの人たちの昼食時にあたり、残り物をいただいた。さらに余ったのは夕飯にとくれた。オレンジ、リンゴ、チョコレート、水ももらった。完全に乞食だけどありがたいす。。
いろんな方に応援され、単純なわたしはよーしがんばるぞ。となった。
I got lost for a while, and it was noon when I reached Laguna Hediona, but actually this was a fortune because it was the time for the tour people for lunch, and I was able to join them for their leftovers. They also gave me some fruits, water, and chocolate. Thank you everyone!!
ホテルのレストランは高いからかお客さんがひとりもいなくてお兄さんがとてもひまそうにしていた。ここが唯一のWiFiポイント（だとあとから知った）なのでネットを使わせてもらう。10ボリで15分だった。
No one was eating at the restaurant perhaps because it's expensive, and the waiter looked so bored. This is the only wifi point, so I paid him to use the Internet.
それからHonda湖。ビューポイントまでのぼりがきついが美しい。
After that came Laguna Honda. It's uphill to the viewpoint, but beautiful.
そこからしばらく平坦な道が続くが、これまたなかなか進まなくて景色が変わらない。いい場所があればキャンプしようと思ったのだが、2時間漕いでも何もないので何もないところでテントを張ろうとする。ところがこれまた強烈な風が吹いてきて、テント袋が飛ばされる。ひとまずテントを押さえてから袋を追いかける。自分でもどこにこんなパワーが残っていたのだろうとびっくりするほどのダッシュの甲斐もむなしく、ぜんぜん追いつかない。そしてさらに押さえたはずのテントまで飛んできた。ぎゃー。さすがにテントを持って袋を追いかけるのは無謀なので袋は諦めた。。T先生ごめんなさい。。そのあともテントを張るのに一苦労。風向きがコロコロ変わるから大変。
Than came a flat section, but it was hard and the scenery doesn't change for hours. I was looking for a place to camp, but couldn't find anything so I decided to camp in the middle of nowhere. But when I tried to put my tent, my tent bags flew away. I pegged down my tent and chased the bags. I was surprised that I had enough energy left to run, but in vain. And then my tent also flew. Oh no! I caught my tent, but I gave up for the bags because it's hard to run with a tent. I never had such a hard time setting my tent.
夕飯は昼にいただいたパスタと鶏肉に野菜を加えてスープパスタに。余った鶏肉はキャベツとリンゴとあえて、翌日のサンドイッチ用にした。見た目はアレだけどうまい。
今宵も星が美しい。
I had the chicken and pasta that the people gave me for dinner. Yum!
The stars are beautiful again.
