Day 144-157 Aldea Luna

Surrounded in the nature, having fresh and delicious food, quiet time away from the civilization, warm family with great hospitality, awesome people from all over the world. I spent a wonderful time in the farm for two weeks.

20km north of Jujuy, after going through mountains and an adventurous path, there comes the farm, "Aldea Luna | Reserva Natural - Jujuy - Argentina". Limited lifeline beside solar powered lights and water pumped up from the river, let alone the Internet. Many vegetables and fruit trees in the garden, and also chicken for the eggs. Most of the food comes from the garden expect certain periods.

It seems like such an isolated and inconvenient place, but there are always many guests and volunteers from all over the world.

It was interesting because hardly anyone were actually interested in farming nor a vegetarian, but came because it seemed fun. Furthermore, it's funny because on Saturday they use the generator to play music and use the mirror ball to make a "disco". I think it's important to have a nice balance to offer "extraordinary", but not being too stoic so that everyone can enjoy it.

There are full time volunteers who stay for over a month and get everything for free, or half day volunteers who stay more than a week and can get a discount. You can also take Spanish lessons. Most of the people including me were a half day volunteer. I also took Spanish lessons.

Morning is working time.

It is spring here, so it's time to get ready for the summer vegetables. We gathered cow poop from the forests (the neighbors graze them) and buried them in the garden. Than we transplanted tomatoes and cucumbers.

It's free time after lunch and on Sundays.

I enjoyed hiking, playing games, singing with the guitar, taking a ciesta on the hammock, and reading. It's so nice to have so much time when you're away from the internet.

I had Spanish classes in the evening. Elizabeth was an excellent teacher who was always patient with my poor Spanish, and taught me only the essential things that was necessary. She always made the classes enjoyable, and sometimes we learned how to make bread or pancakes in Spanish.

We had homemade bread and delicous vegetarian food every day, and my stomach grew so big because I kept on eating so much. It was pretty shocking to me that a refregirator is unnecessary if you don't eat meat and dairy products.

People from all over the world such as Argentina, France, England, US, Sweden, and Canada. Always buzzed with many languages such as English, French, and Spanish.

On the last Sunday, I cooked some Japanese food again. I haven't cooked for so many people for a long time, but I'm glad that everyone enjoyed it. We also did some origami.

it it was so nice to spend a relaxing time in a special place after the tough days through the desert. And I'm so glad to meet all the great people here.

Thanks to everyone I met, and to Baptiste, who introduced me this awesome place!

I hope I can come back some day.

Gracias Aldea Luna!!
