Day 166-169 Santa Maria to Pituil
People in Argentina can party until midnight probably because they have ciesta. Every night I'm having trouble sleeping in the party people and barking dogs.
The owner of the campsite told me that there is a hot spring, so I decided to go there as my goal for today. The wind gets strong after 2pm, so I wanted to leave early but I ended up leaving late, and the wind caught me. Headwind combined with uphill, resulted in only 6km/h. I decided to push.
I see so many cob ovens in Argentina. They bake bread in it.
After103km, I ended up camping in the back of a school. 5km to the hot spring, but I was too tired to climb up the mountains. At night, a dog was circling around my tent for few times, so I couldn't sleep well. I'm starting to hate dogs ever since I came to South America.
The next morning, I left for hot springs!! But...
When I found out that I need to cross this river, I gave up and thought that it's better to move forward before the wind starts.
I had some breakfast on the way, and after few minutes, I realized something.
Where is my down jacket!!?
I tied my jacket around my waist, but it was gone. I switched back to find it, but I couldn't find it anywhere. After 5km I gave up.
Oh...again. I need to buy a tent and a jacket now.
I was disappointed, when a truck stopped in front of me, and the driver had... My jacket!!!
Muchas gracias señor!!!
I'm so lucky again. But I have to be careful because I'm keep on loosing things.
I finally arrived to the town of Belen. My body was in pain after many days of camping, so I was looking for a hostel, when a woman talked to me and took me to her hostel.
It was a nice hostel, and it was a dormitory but no one else. Actually there were no one else in the whole hostel!
Relaxing time drinking mate.
She was very talkative, and she told me many things starting from her family and her job, and to the economics and problems in Argentina. I need to practice more Spanish to understand and ask more questions that I want.
The next morning, I felt so perfect after sleeping well on the bed. It's important to rest once in awhile.
The madam gave me tons of walnuts.
I visited the Inka ruins in Lombre. It's quite different from Machu Picchu, but I like that is so quiet. No one else again.
I spend a lot of time there, so I could only go 55km, and I camped under a tree. The wind was so strong that I couldn't build up my tent, so I layed on it.
Leaving early this morning. It's nice to bike without wind.
I turned back and saw this magnificent view.
I ended up in a small town, Pituil.
A stranger cracking walnuts next to the bench in the plaza.
A kind lady who let me charge my battery and fill my water bottles. She also gave me a meatloaf kind of thing for dinner which was delicious.
