Day 288-289 Havana to Las Terrazas

歩く旅をしている面白い日本人夫婦がいるよ、と紹介してもらった歩き人ふみさんとあゆみさん。ふみさんが日本を縦断中にあゆみさんと出会って合流し、ゴールの四国で結婚されたそう。なんともドラマチックなお話。そして今回はアメリカ大陸を横断するそうだ。わたしたちとちょうど同じタイミングでキューバにいたのでお会いすることができた。少しの時間だったけどいろんなお話が聞けて楽しかった。（紹介していただいた西川さん、ありがとうございます）

自転車よりもさらにゆっくりな「歩く」という手段。自転車は登りが辛くても下りは楽だが、歩きではそうもいかない。でもその分見える景色や出会う人はまた違うのだろう。

We met a Japanese couple who are walking around the world. They are going to walk across North America, and we were in Cuba at the same time. It should be even more difficult than a bike, but that also means you can see more.

キューバの安全性といくつかの出会い｜歩き人ふみとあゆみの徒歩世界旅行 Trek7 夫婦北米大陸徒歩横断編

ハバナと言えばここ、の革命広場へ。これでハバナの観光スポットは制覇した、はず。

 We went to the revolutionary square.

ハガキを出すために郵便局に寄ったりしていたら道を間違えて、なんだかんだハバナを脱出するまでに1時間以上かかってしまった。

その先は高速を走る。こんなところで誰が買うの？と思うようなニンニクと玉ねぎを売っている人とか、それでヒッチハイクできるの？というぐらい腕組みしてふんぞり返っているお姉さんとか、山火事なのかわざとなのかわからないけど燃えてる草とか、以外はつまらない道だ。

Then we tried to leave Havana, which took a long time. On the highway there were some interesting people selling onions and garlic (I don't think anyone will stop here), and a lady hitchhiking with her arms crossed.

なので途中からわき道に入った。

小さい村がちょこちょこあって、みんなHola!!と挨拶してくれる。

It was boring so went into a side path.

最後の方は未舗装よりもひどい舗装路だったけど、どうにかLasTerrazasに到着。

キャンプ場のサインがあったので行ってみると、ここはキューバ人専用のキャンプ場だから観光客は入れられないと断られる。でもとても親切なおじさんで、暗くなってからテントを建てて、夜が明ける前に出発するなら、あそこ（敷地の外）でキャンプしていいよとこっそり教えてくれた。
そんなわけで暗くなるまで町へ。

 Some parts of the road were horrible, but we finally arrived to Lad Terrazas.

There was a camping sign so we went there, but the guy told us that this campsite is only for Cubans. But he was very nice and told us we can camp across the river (which is out of their territory) after it gets dark. So we went to the village to kill some time.

この町にわざわざ来たのは、ここがエコビレッジだと聞いたから。中でもEl Romeroというエコレストランにどうしても行きたかった。

The reason why I wanted to come here is because I heard it's an eco village. And I especially wanted to go to the eco restaurant, El Romero.

食材は全て自家農場で採れたものを使い、ゴミはリサイクル、電力はソーラー、水は先住民が使っていた瓶みたいなものでろ過していた。

all the food are from there garden, garbage are recycled, electricity is solar powered, and they used a ceramic jar to filter the water-- the same way that the indigenous people used to do.

料理はどれも創造的で、味も見た目もキューバで食べた中でダントツだった。
前菜には蓮の花のサラダ。

All the food were creative and so delicious than anything we had in Cuba.

かすみちゃんはフルーツスープとユカのマッシュ、わたしは黒豆のスープとカボチャと野菜の焼いたものに黒豆がかかったもの（名前は忘れた）を頼んだ。付け合わせの天ぷらはバナナとパイナップルとキュウリ。どれも斬新な味で、一口毎に驚きと感動が詰まっている。接客は残念な感じだけど、それを差し引いてもまた来たいと思うような味。明日朝また来よう。

My friend ordered a fruit soup and mashed yuca. I had black bean soup and baked vegetables with pumpkin. The tempura were banana, pineapple, and cucumber. Every bite is full of excitement.

I want to come back. Maybe tomorrow...

日が暮れるのを待ってテントを張る。キューバで初のテント泊。ホタルが飛んでいる。

we pitched our tents after it became dark. First time to camp in Cuba. There were some fireflies.

翌朝。約束通り夜が明ける前にテントをたたみ、町を散歩。お腹がペコペコでにおいに導かれるようにしてパン屋さんへ行くと、なんとパンをくれた。 

we left before sunrise and had a walk.I was so hungry that my nose guided me into a bakery, and the guy gave us some bread.

 

せっかくなのでEl Romeroのガーデンに行ってみる。レタス、キャベツ、ピーマン、チャイブ、ニンジン、食用サボテン、そして大きな桑の木があり、桑の実が美味しかった。

We went to the garden of the restaurant. Lettuce, cabbage, peppers,chives, carrots, and a big mulberry tree with delicious berries on.

Lumbricultureで作られた堆肥を運んでいて、これから新しい畑を作るそう。

They were carrying the compost made from lumbriculture. They said that they are making a new garden.

キャベツが無農薬とは思えないほど立派で、虫ひとつついていないので、虫除けはどうしているのかと聞くと、何か植物由来のスプレーをまいているという。どういう成分なのだろうか。

I never saw such a beautiful organic cabbage, and I asked how they avoid the bugs. The guy told me that they use a spray made from something natural, but he didn't know t he name. I wonder what it is.

9時にレストランが開店すると書いてあったので、それに合わせて行ったが、まだ開店準備中で12時からしかやっていないという。じゃあ12時って書けばいいのにと思ったけど泣く泣く諦めて町をあとにした。

 We waited until 9am for the restaurant to open, but it didn't so we left... Too bad...

その先はアップダウンが激しく、キューバ史上最も急な坂も出現した。しかし荷物が軽いというのは素晴らしき事かな。激坂でもなんとか降りずにいけた。

途中でマメイというフルーツをはじめて見た。果肉はオレンジ色で、味と食感は甘いアボカドみたいでとてもおいしい。そのあとの村でマメイのスムージーも飲んだ。

Mamei is a fruit popular among here. Its very flavorful.

今日はLa Mulataという海沿いの村に泊まることにした。こっそりテント泊に味をしめた我々は暗くなるまでレストランでごはんを食べてのんびりしてから海に沈む夕日を眺めてテントを張った。

We arrived to La Murata, and decided to camp here again in front of the sea. we went to a restaurant and watched the sunset.
