Auckland to Matakana

I heard there is a wonderful Farmer's Market in Matakana, a small village 70km north of Auckland. There is also a craft market, and I asked if there were any space available at the upcoming market on 28th July, and I was surprised to get a table!

I packed up my luggage and bamboo and left for the ferry.

Bicycles and pedestrians are not alowed to cross the bridge, so we need to take a ferry to the north shore.

After 30 minutes, I arrived to the north shore where I was welcomed with a steep hill.

oh no... But this was just the begining.

Endless hills, hills, hills... and they are sooooo steeeeep!!!

I felt like it was harder than the Andes or the Hakone, because its not just one big hill, and you never know what's coming up next.

The weather was not good as well, and I caught many showers and headwind on the way.

I regretted that I brought so much stuff with me, and I almost threw my bike away and hitchhiked.

But everytime I found some bamboo on the road,

and when I saw the beautiful coast, sheeps and cows grazing the grass, it made me feel better.

And I felt so relieved when I was warmly welcomed by Mio and Rick, who are hosting me tonight. We enjoyed sharing our stories over delicious dinner and wine.
I'm sure I can sleep well tonight.
