今日もそそくさとテントをたたんで出発。はたらく牛をたくさん見かける。

ハバナの東側にはタバコ農家がたくさんあるようだ。そしてタバコ農園の横にはほぼ必ず三角形の家がある。たまたまバス停にいた人に聞いてみたところ、やはりタバコを乾燥させるための家らしい。どうやって乾燥されるのかとか詳しく聞こうとすると、「よかったら中見る？」「はい！喜んで！」というわけで見せてもらえることに。
There are many tabaco farms on the east side of Cuba. And there is always a triangle shaped house next to those farms. I asked a man about it, and he showed us inside.
中は蚕部屋みたいで、薄暗く、所狭しとタバコの葉が何段にも重なってつるされていた。だいたい8ヶ月ぐらい乾燥させてから選別し、次の工程にまわるらしい。ほんのりいい香りがした。タバコって本当はいいにおいなんだなあ。
It was a dark room with loads of tabaco leaves, waiting 8 months to dry. It had a nice scent. I didn't know that tabaco smells good itself.
おじいさんは子供の時から80年間、ずっとここで働いているらしい！
The grandfather works here for 80 years, ever since he was a kid!
我々の好物、ユカという芋。こんな形だったとは知らなかった。
Yuca, is a kind of potato that we love. But I didn't know it grows like this.
ユカが好きだと言ったら、お母さんがなんと料理を作ってくれるという。その間に散歩しておいでというわけで娘さんに案内してもらった。
We said we love Yuca, and the mother offered to cook yuca for us. She told us to walk around while she is cooking, and her daughter showed us around.
山全体が敷地らしく、他にもさとうきび、マンゴー、グアバ、バナナ、お米や野菜も作っているという。牛、豚、ヤギ、ニワトリ、七面鳥も放牧されていた。ちなみにお米は牛で耕し、脱粒まですべて手作業。すごい！どうやって精米するかを聞き忘れたのが悔やまれる。
The whole mountain is their property, and they grow sugarcanes, mangos, guavas,bananas, and rice. They kept cows, pigs, goats, chicken, and turkeys.
家に戻るとお母さんがユカ料理を出してくれた。塩茹でしただけなのになんでこんなにおいしいの！手作りマヨネーズもおいしい。たまたま通りすがりの我々にこんなにしていただいて、本当にありがたいやらなんやら。素敵な家族でした。
We went back ant delicious dishes were prepared for us. We were so blessed to meet this lovely family.
エスペランサには17時頃到着。目当てのホステルはいっぱいでお友達のところを紹介してくれた。とても親切なご夫婦で、安くしてくれた上にランゴスタも出してくれた。おなかいっぱいだと思ったけど美味しくてペロリ。豆のスープがおいしかった。
We arrived in a small town, Puerto Esperanza. The casa we wanted to go was full, and the owner introduced her friend. They were very nice and cooked delicious dinner.
夕飯後、ご主人のノエルとお話しているときにランゴスタの乱獲が問題になっていることを聞き、何も考えずに安い！おいしい！と言って食べていた自分が恥ずかしくなった。
安さの裏に何があるのか、いつも想像できる人でありたい。
I was talking with the owner at night and he told me that the lobsters are in danger due to overfishing. I was embarrassed because I didn't even think about that and was just enjoying it. I have to imagine what is hidden behind the cheapness.
3/4 Sat
深夜からバケツをひっくり返したような土砂降りで、朝になっても降ったり止んだり。今日に限ってテントじゃなくて本当にラッキーだった。体調もイマイチだし、ここまで10日間休みなく走り続けてきたので、今日は休むことにした。
It was pouring like crazy since midnight, and it was still raining in the morning. We decided to have a rest day.
朝ごはんを食べ、雨も上がったので海まで散歩。これまでのどんな小さな村よりも何もない町だ。曇っているので海もそこまできれいではない。壊れかけた桟橋を歩いてみる。
The rain stopped in a while, so we went for a walk. There is nothing here. We walked on the broken deck to have the view, but the sea is not so pretty with the clouds.
キューバでは公園でも道端でも、そこかしこでドミノをしている。恥ずかしながらわたくし、キューバに来るまでドミノにドミノ倒し以外の用途があることを知りませんでした。
Cubanos love playing dominos anywhere. I actually didn't know there was a way to "play" dominoes, other tha knocking them down.
昼過ぎには晴れてきたが、お腹と喉の調子が悪いのでゴロゴロする。夕方になって自転車の整備。ノエルが手伝ってくれてチェーンの交換と洗車をした。
The owner helped me maintenance my bike.
土曜の夜は海の近くでディスコテカがあるというので夕飯を食べてから行ってみたがしんとしている。わずかな音と光に導かれてお店の方へ向かうと、何人か人がおり、その中の人が馬を持っていたので乗せてもらった。まさかこんな夜中にこんなところで馬に乗ることになるとは思わなかった。やっぱり馬はかわいい。
They told us there is a disco tonight, so we went out after dinner, but the town was so quiet. A guy had a horse and he gave us a ride. I didn't expect riding a horse here in midnight.
ディスコが空くまで飲もうと言われ、その人達と一緒に飲んでいたが、あれよあれよと言う間に8人ぐらいに増えていた。しかもみんな親戚だというのがなんだかウケる。この町の人はみんな親戚なのだろうか。我々の泊まっているカサにも、いとこだのおじさんだの、だんなさんのいとこだの、いろんな人がやってくる。不思議な町だ。
We were waiting in a bar for the disco to open, but there were more and more people joining us. It was funny because they said they are all relatives.
音楽がかかるとみんな踊り出す。サルサはともかく、レゲトンはとてつもなく腰を動かす。一体どういう骨格をしているとあの動きが可能になるのだろうか。
They started dancing with the music. I can't believe how they move their hips, especially in regeton.
そうして今宵も夜は更けていく。
明日はいよいよラストラン！
Its going to be our last ride tomorrow!!
